In a tragic incident in Tawau, Sabah, a 58-year-old man named Yong Kon Siong lost his life after his vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a 10m deep ravine along Jalan Luasong on Tuesday (May 28).

The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 7.08pm and quickly dispatched a team of eight firemen, led by Tawau Fire and Rescue Station senior fire officer II Mohd Yahya And Fayyah, to the scene, which was located approximately 120km away from the station.

Upon arrival, the firemen found the victim trapped in the wreckage of his car. Despite their best efforts, Yong Kon Siong succumbed to his severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The rescue operation, which involved extricating the victim’s body from the car, lasted until 9.58pm before the authorities were able to retrieve the deceased from the ravine.

Police Investigation Underway

Following the tragic incident, the case has been handed over to the police for further investigation. The authorities will be looking into the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine the cause of the fatal crash.
