Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A 39-year-old man, Stefan Bolohan, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after being found guilty of raping a woman in Bridgwater. Bolohan, who is of no fixed address, received his sentence on Friday 24 May at Taunton Crown Court, which was sitting at North Somerset Magistrates’ Court.

The incident took place on Friday 3 June 2022, when Bolohan attacked the woman on the green opposite Clarks Road in Bridgwater. The victim reported the assault to the police the following day, prompting a swift investigation by detectives.

After conducting a thorough CCTV trawl of the area, the police were able to identify Bolohan as the suspect. Detective Inspector Claire Millington described him as a ‘danger to women’ and expressed gratitude that this was acknowledged in his sentence.

Public Appeal Leads to Arrest

Following a public appeal to identify the perpetrator, Bolohan was apprehended with the help of information from the community. DI Millington praised the public for their support, stating that the CCTV footage revealed Bolohan’s calculated and predatory behavior towards the victim.

DI Millington stated: “The CCTV in this case showed that Bolohan was calculated and predatory, following the victim and, when she was isolated and in an area of darkness, he took the opportunity to attack her and subject her to a horrific ordeal.”

Victim’s Testimony

The victim, in a statement read out in court, described the lasting impact of the assault on her life and mental well-being. She expressed her struggles with fear, anger, anxiety, and questions following the traumatic incident.

DI Millington commended the victim for her bravery in coming forward to report the crime and for supporting the police investigation throughout the court proceedings.

Sentence and Restraining Order

Judge Cook sentenced Bolohan to 13 years in prison, with an additional three-year extended period on licence. In addition to the prison term, Bolohan was required to sign the sex offenders’ register and was issued a life-long restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.
