The body found near Martin’s Bar in Woodland, Washington has been officially identified as that of a man from Georgia.

The discovery was made by two fishermen on June 2, 2022, who promptly informed the authorities. The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office recovered the body and requested an examination by the Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office.

Initial assessments revealed no signs of foul play, however, due to the advanced state of decomposition, facial recognition and fingerprint identification were not possible. It took nearly two years of extensive DNA testing to establish a positive match.

Following contact with the deceased’s stepmother and father, dental records were obtained that confirmed the identity of Pierre Pearson, a 34-year-old man who was last reported missing in April 2021.

Originally hailing from Georgia, Pearson was known to have been transient in Portland before his demise. Authorities have determined that there is no evidence to suggest his death was the result of criminal activity.

The remains of Pearson will be repatriated to his family, bringing closure to the case.
