Accident – Death – Obituary News : BENGALURU: In a shocking incident, the city police have apprehended an 18-year-old second PU student for his involvement in morphing nude photos of a class 9 girl using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Additionally, two minor boys from a city school have been handed over to the juvenile board in connection with the case. The trio has been charged under the IT and Pocso Act for their alleged role in circulating the morphed images on social media platforms.
The 18-year-old suspect, identified as Jeevan Kumar R from Bagalur, is believed to be the mastermind behind the AI-morphed nude photos of the young girl. The two minor boys involved are class 9 students from the same school as the victim. One of the boys is a regular student, while the other attends classes only on weekends as part of the National Institute of Open School, with the school serving as a center.
Earlier, the parent of the class 9 girl had reported the incident to the cybercell after discovering the morphed images of her daughter circulating on social media platforms. The images were first posted in an Instagram group chat comprising 20 classmates of the girl. Although the victim was not part of the group chat, she was alerted by her friends about the disturbing content.
It was revealed that the morphed images were created from two photos shared on the girl’s private Instagram account. The suspects and their parents were summoned to the school for questioning, following which an FIR was lodged at the North-East-CEN police station based on the mother’s complaint.
During the investigation, it was disclosed that the regular class 9 student was the victim’s classmate. Initially, they shared a close relationship, but the girl distanced herself from him due to unwanted advances. Subsequently, the boy confided in the student from the open school about the situation, leading to the creation and dissemination of the morphed images by Jeevan.
In response to this disturbing incident, the private schools’ association has urged parents to monitor their children’s online activities closely. D Shashi Kumar, the secretary of the Association of Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools of Karnataka, emphasized the importance of regulating screen time and encouraging outdoor activities to prevent such incidents.
The three students and their parents were called for a counseling session at the school before being taken into police custody for further interrogation. This case underscores the critical need for parental supervision and guidance in navigating the digital landscape to ensure the safety and well-being of young individuals..
