Pune: Following the controversial decision to grant immediate bail to the wealthy teen involved in the fatal Porsche crash case in Pune, a special committee has been formed to investigate the members of the Juvenile Justice Board responsible for this decision. The Maharashtra government-appointed members of the Juvenile Justice Board are currently facing intense scrutiny for their bail terms to the 17-year-old teenager who caused the tragic accident while driving under the influence on May 19.

Dr. LN Danawade, a member of the Juvenile Justice Board, is specifically under the spotlight for his contentious choice to grant swift bail to the intoxicated teen. The bail conditions, which included writing a 300-word essay on road safety and posting two bonds amounting to just Rs 15,000, have sparked widespread outrage and raised serious concerns about the fairness of the legal system.

The committee, chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of the Social Justice Department, has been established to oversee the investigation into the controversial bail decision. Commissioner Prashant Narnaware of Women and Child Development has initiated this inquiry. The inquiry committee is tasked with verifying the circumstances surrounding the bail decision and will subsequently submit its findings to Commissioner Narnaware for further review.

A report is expected to be submitted next week, according to Prashant Narnawre, the Commissioner of the Women and Child Development department.

The Swift Bail Decision

The Juvenile Justice Board granted bail to the teenager mere hours after the Porsche car he was allegedly driving struck and killed two IT professionals in their twenties on a motorbike. Additionally, he was instructed to write a 300-word essay on road accidents, a directive that drew a barrage of criticism. Following backlash over the swift bail, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) remanded the 17-year-old boy to an observation home until June 5.

Details of the Pune Porsche Accident

The tragic accident occurred in the early hours of May 19 when a speeding luxury car driven by a juvenile collided with a motorcycle in Pune city, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. The incident took place around 3:15 am in Kalyani Nagar as a group of friends, returning home on their motorbikes after a gathering at a local restaurant, neared the Kalyani Nagar junction.

The Porsche collided with one of the motorcycles, causing the two riders to fall off and lose their lives on the spot, as detailed in the FIR. Subsequently, the car crashed into the pavement railings alongside the road. A video circulating on social media captured a group of individuals physically confronting the driver as he attempted to exit the crashed vehicle.

The deceased victims have been identified as Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa, according to the FIR.
