Accident – Death – Obituary News : HOLLISTER – Authorities in San Benito County are currently on the lookout for an inmate who managed to escape from the county jail in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Daniel Lopez Zavala, a 37-year-old individual, successfully evaded security measures by climbing over an 8-foot-tall barbed-wire fence at approximately 2 a.m. The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that Zavala fled in a northeasterly direction from the facility, which is situated at 710 Flynn Road.

Despite an initial search conducted by deputies and Hollister police officers, Zavala remained at large. However, a more thorough search using canines yielded some promising leads. The dogs were able to detect Zavala’s scent and led authorities to his discarded pants in an open field, before eventually tracing his movements to the 1800 block of Airway Drive. It is believed that Zavala was picked up by a car in this area.

The Sheriff’s Office has assured the public that Zavala does not pose an immediate threat to the community, but his criminal record is extensive. Previous charges against him include shooting into an inhabited dwelling, gang-related assault with a firearm, and battery resulting in serious bodily harm. Presently, Zavala faces charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, manufacturing a short-barrel rifle, and child cruelty.

Zavala is described as being 6-foot-1 and weighing 190 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He has distinctive tattoos, including “San Benito County” and “Hollis” on his chest, skulls and women on his arms and shoulders, “ESN” on his back, and “Alexia” and “Amaya” on his stomach. At the time of his escape, he was wearing a brown jail shirt, orange jail pants, and black shoes.

Members of the public are urged to contact 911 or text a tip to 888777 (type TIP SBCSO) if they have any information regarding Zavala’s whereabouts.

The search for Zavala is ongoing, and the Sheriff’s Office is committed to using all available resources to track him down and bring him to justice. This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available..
