PATNA, May 28: Bihar Police announced on Tuesday that they have apprehended the prime suspect in the heinous murder of a final year undergraduate student from BN College on the law college campus of Patna University.
The arrested individual has been identified as Chandan Kumar, a final-year student of Patna College and a resident of Bihta, Patna.
According to police reports, Kumar, who resided in Jackson Hostel of Patna College, orchestrated the plan to kill Harsh Raj, a student of BN College, Patna University, on Monday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Patna, Rajeev Mishra, informed PTI, “Chandan Kumar is the main suspect in the case. Further interrogation of him is ongoing.”
Harsh Raj, a 22-year-old final year undergraduate student, was fatally assaulted by unidentified individuals on the law college campus of Patna University on Monday.
The tragic incident occurred as the student was leaving his examination center in the afternoon. He had gone to take his graduation exam on the law college campus and was attacked by a group of students. Despite being rushed to the hospital by the police, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Patna Police issued a statement saying, “Following the incident, the district police set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and apprehended Chandan Kumar, the alleged mastermind, on Tuesday. During questioning, Kumar confessed to his involvement in the crime and provided information about other suspects.”
A senior officer of the Patna Police mentioned, “Initial findings suggest that the incident may have stemmed from an old rivalry. However, the exact motive behind the attack can only be determined after a thorough investigation.” Police are currently on the lookout for other suspects.
In response to the incident, various student groups organized protest marches in different parts of the city and outside Patna University. Security measures have been heightened on the campus to prevent any further disturbances, as stated by the officer.
Meanwhile, Patna University has reportedly postponed all examinations following the tragic event. (PTI)
