A man aged 40 from Homeland is currently in police custody on suspicion of murder, as announced by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. The arrest follows an incident that took place on Neer Street in Homeland at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, where deputies responded to a report of an assault involving a deadly weapon.
Upon their arrival at the scene, deputies discovered a man inside a vehicle who had sustained a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as 43-year-old Ryan White from San Diego County, was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, where he was tragically pronounced deceased.
During their investigation at the scene, deputies apprehended a potential suspect, later identified as Benjamin Velez of Homeland. Velez, who also required medical attention, was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Following his release from medical care, Velez was arrested on Monday and subsequently booked into Riverside County Jail. He is currently being held on a bail amount of $1 million.
