In a heartbreaking turn of events, the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) has confirmed the recovery of the body of a drowning victim at Stokes Bluff Landing. The victim has been identified as X-Zayvion Gordon, a 12-year-old resident of Estill.
The incident unfolded when HCSO received reports of a drowning at Stokes Bluff Landing around 7 p.m. on Sunday. This prompted an immediate response from search and rescue teams, as well as multiple law enforcement agencies, who mobilized to comb the area for any signs of the missing individual.
After an extensive search effort, the victim’s body was finally located at approximately 1:30 p.m. the following day. The tragic discovery has left the community reeling from the loss of a young life.
The Hampton County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude towards a number of agencies that assisted in the recovery efforts, including SCDNR, SLED, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Dive and Rescue Team, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Effingham County Fire and Rescue, Hampton County Fire & Rescue, and the Hampton County Coroner.
As the investigation continues, Stokes Bluff Landing has since reopened to the public, though the somber incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that can lurk in the waters.
