A resident of Murphysboro, Illinois is currently facing murder charges following a tragic shooting incident that resulted in the death of a Carbondale resident over the weekend.
On Saturday, May 25, authorities from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call reporting a shooting at 47 Oak Valley Drive in Carbondale, Illinois. The victim, identified as 43-year-old Autumn Cole from Carbondale, was found at the scene with a single gunshot wound. Cole was unresponsive and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
During the investigation, deputies were able to obtain a description of the suspect involved in the shooting. Shortly after, one of the deputies spotted 32-year-old Timothy Gassel in the vicinity and apprehended him without incident. Gassel was subsequently taken into custody and charged with aggravated battery with a firearm.
Tragically, Autumn Cole succumbed to her injuries the following day, passing away just before 1 p.m. as a result of the shooting. In light of this devastating outcome, the Jackson County State’s Attorney has filed two counts of first-degree murder against Timothy Gassel in connection with the incident.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and the community is urged to come forward with any information that may assist in the case.
