SWAT: Malakand division commissioner Saqib Raza Aslam instructed the district administration on Monday to conduct a prompt survey to collect information on street children in the area with the aim of providing them with essential facilities.

The directive was issued during a meeting on child protection held at the commissioner’s office. The meeting was attended by Swat deputy commissioner Shahzad Mohib, district social welfare officer Salim Zada, child protection officer Ehsanullah, DSP Nauman Hussain, and representatives from non-government organisations.

Commissioner Aslam stressed the importance of a collaborative approach to combat child labour and other forms of exploitation. He urged the officials to establish a committee led by the deputy commissioner to devise a comprehensive plan to address the challenges faced by street children.

This committee will focus on providing basic necessities to these vulnerable children, such as shelter, education, and healthcare. Commissioner Aslam highlighted the need for the district administration to work closely with relevant departments and non-government organisations to safeguard the welfare of street children.

Tragic incidents of suicide reported in Swat

On the same day, Swat witnessed two tragic incidents of suicide, resulting in the loss of two lives and leaving another individual injured.

Kanju police reported that a 32-year-old man, identified as Amitedar and a resident of Faisal Town, took his own life by shooting himself for reasons unknown.

In a separate incident, a person named Gulyar succumbed to suicide by consuming poisonous pills in the Talkar Bar Shawar area of Matta.

Furthermore, in Shahi Abad area of Brikot, Adalat Khan’s wife attempted to end her life by ingesting poison. She was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition for medical treatment.

These unfortunate incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and support services in the community.
