HOMELAND, CA — A man from San Diego has been tragically identified as the victim in a recent slaying in Riverside County, as confirmed by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The victim has been named as Ryan White, aged 43, from San Diego County, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Coroner’s Bureau.
On Sunday, just before 5:30 p.m., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department responded to a 911 call in the 31000 block of Neer Street in Homeland. The call reported an assault involving a deadly weapon.
Upon their arrival, deputies discovered a man inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound. He was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
A possible suspect, identified as Benjamin Velez, a 40-year-old resident of Homeland, was apprehended at the scene. Velez also required medical attention and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The following day, Benjamin Velez was placed under arrest and booked into Riverside County Jail on suspicion of the crime. He is currently being held on $1 million bail pending his next court appearance.
