Accident – Death – Obituary News :

On Friday, 24th May 2024, Tampa Police Detectives formally charged 38-year-old Rotesha Silveus, an Indian female born on 26th October 1985, with the murder of her 18-year-old daughter, Natavia Sanders.

“This is a truly heart-wrenching case,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “Our deepest sympathies go out to all those who knew and loved Natavia. The dedicated efforts of our detectives underscore our unwavering commitment to ensuring that justice prevails in this tragic matter.”

In the early hours of 11th May 2024, Natavia contacted Tampa Police to report that she had just regained consciousness after being strangled by her mother, later identified as Silveus. The call abruptly ended, prompting Communications personnel to strive to re-establish contact with the caller. In response, Officers were dispatched to the family’s residence situated in the 1900 block of E. 23rd Ave.

Upon arrival, Tampa Police Officers encountered Silveus, who initially exhibited reluctance to cooperate. Following a brief altercation, officers managed to subdue her and locate Natavia, who was found unresponsive inside the property. Immediate CPR efforts were initiated by the officers, and Tampa Fire Rescue subsequently transported Natavia to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.

Silveus was promptly arrested and taken into custody at Orient Road Jail. She faced initial charges of Resisting an Officer with Violence and Aggravated Battery with Great Bodily Harm.

Tragically, Natavia succumbed to her injuries on 13th May. The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office conclusively determined her death to be a result of homicide. Through the subsequent investigative process, which included interviews with witnesses, it was established that Natavia had sustained injuries consistent with manual strangulation.

On 24th May, the charges against Silveus were upgraded to First Degree Murder. She currently remains incarcerated at Orient Road Jail.
