Law enforcement officials in Louisiana are on the lookout for two inmates who managed to escape from the Tangipahoa Parish Jail, located just north of New Orleans. The escapees are considered dangerous as three out of the four are homicide suspects, according to the parish sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Daniel Edwards stated that the inmates broke free during their recreation time in the jail’s yard by exploiting a vulnerable section of the perimeter fence. This allowed them to slide through and make their getaway.

The fugitives have been identified as Omarion Hookfin, 19, from Hammond, La.; Avery Guidry, also 19, from Natalbany, La.; and Travon Johnson, 21, also hailing from Natalbany. The fourth escapee is Jamarcus Cyprian, 20, from Amity, La.

Authorities were able to apprehend Johnson and Guidry, who were found hiding in a dumpster behind a Dollar General store. However, Hookfin and Cyprian remain at large.

Johnson, Hookfin, and Guidry were incarcerated for their alleged involvement in a 2022 homicide in Hammond, while Cyprian was serving time for armed robbery and weapons charges. Additionally, Cyprian faces additional charges for aggravated battery during his time in Catahoula Parish.

CBS New Orleans affiliate WWL-TV reported that the charges against Johnson, Hookfin, and Guidry stemmed from a 2022 home invasion in Hammond, which resulted in the death of a 33-year-old man and his 12-year-old daughter being hospitalised.
