GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) – An individual has been taken into custody after a violent altercation on Monday evening in Greene County resulted in another man being hospitalized.

According to the authorities at the Greene County Sheriff’s Department (GCSD), law enforcement officers were dispatched to a residence located in the 600 block of Bear Hollow Road in the northern region of the county in response to reports of a shooting incident.

Upon arrival at the scene, deputies discovered the victim, identified as 42-year-old Nathan Poe, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Poe was subsequently airlifted to the Johnson City Medical Center for urgent medical treatment.

As of the latest update on Tuesday morning, officials from the GCSD have indicated that Poe remains in critical condition.

In a statement released to the press, the sheriff’s office confirmed that the suspected perpetrator, known as Claude “Junior” West, had absconded from the scene at Bear Hollow Road. Nevertheless, West was apprehended by deputies in Hawkins County shortly thereafter and is now under arrest.

The 68-year-old suspect, West, has been formally charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection with the shooting incident.

West is presently being detained at the Greene County Detention Center, with his bail set at £400,000 as of Tuesday morning. He is scheduled to make a court appearance on Wednesday.
