Accident – Death – Obituary News :

In a shocking turn of events on Monday evening, Charleston County deputies were led on a chase by 18-year-old London Wright, who was later discovered to be in possession of an unlawful machine gun. The incident took place near the intersection of Lemontree Lane and Jeffrey Road on James Island.

Deputies Respond to Suspicious Activity

Charleston County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies were alerted to a suspicious individual in the area and attempted to stop Wright shortly after 6:00 p.m. Instead of complying with the officers, Wright chose to flee the scene, prompting a pursuit.

Firearm Discharged During Pursuit

As the chase unfolded, Wright reportedly drew a Glock 9mm handgun from his holster and fired a shot. The dangerous act of discharging a firearm in a public area escalated the situation and put bystanders and law enforcement officers at risk.

Modified Machine Gun Uncovered

After throwing the handgun onto a nearby roof, deputies were able to recover the weapon and make a startling discovery. The Glock 9mm had been illegally modified with a switch that allowed it to function as a fully automatic firearm, rather than its original semi-automatic design.

Arrest and Charges

Following his arrest, London Wright was charged with unlawful possession of a machine gun. He is currently detained at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center, awaiting further legal proceedings.

These events serve as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by illegal firearms in our communities and the importance of law enforcement efforts to ensure public safety. The swift actions of Charleston County deputies prevented a potential tragedy and brought a dangerous individual to justice.
