Three individuals, including a teenage girl, have tragically lost their lives due to electrocution in separate incidents in Dhaka following a stormy night caused by the aftermath of Cyclone Remal.

Electrocution Incidents

Two of the victims succumbed to electrocution in the Khilgaon Thana area, while the third incident occurred in Jatrabari. They were immediately rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctors pronounced them deceased, as reported by Inspector Md Bachchu Mia from the hospital’s police outpost.

Victim Identification

The victim in Jatrabari was identified as 15-year-old Liza Akhtar. Originally from Noakhali’s Charjabbar Upazila, her family resided in a rented accommodation in Jatrabari.

According to her sister Mariam, Liza inadvertently made contact with the electrified tin fence surrounding their residence, resulting in her electrocution and subsequent loss of consciousness. She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 10:30 pm, but the medical team at the emergency department sadly confirmed her passing prior to their arrival.

Incident Details

A 45-year-old woman named Marium Begum suffered electrocution at approximately 11 pm whilst traversing a water puddle that had been electrically charged by a nearby power pole in Ice Cream Alley, located in the Shipahibag area of Khilgaon. Subsequently, she collapsed and lost consciousness.

Local resident Nahid recounted how he swiftly transported Marium to the hospital. Following a medical assessment, the attending physicians declared her deceased.

Concurrently, in Khilgaon’s Taltola, a 25-year-old rickshaw driver named Rakib was also electrocuted and rendered unconscious whilst recharging his battery-operated rickshaw. He was promptly rescued and conveyed to the hospital around 11:30 pm, where the on-call doctor sadly confirmed his demise.

Nazmul, another rickshaw operator from the same garage, informed journalists at the hospital that Rakib originally hailed from Uttar Charail village in Jhalakathi’s Sadar Upazila.
