NASHVILLE, TN. (WSMV/Gray News) – The Nashville community is reeling from a tragic incident that claimed the life of 18-year-old Lily Basil, just one day after she graduated from high school.
According to reports, emergency services received a distressing call from a man who was rushing Basil to the hospital after she sustained a gunshot wound to her right shoulder.
After being instructed to pull over and wait for EMS assistance, Basil was taken to the hospital where she tragically succumbed to her injuries, as reported by WSMV.
Authorities have identified 18-year-old Matthew Roufail as the shooter, who claimed that the fatal shooting was accidental. Roufail allegedly believed that the AR-15-style rifle he was handling was unloaded when the tragic incident occurred.
Roufail has been arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released on a $150,000 bond as investigations continue.
