Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A shocking incident at the Mount Royal Market in Duluth has led to the arrest and charging of 43-year-old Lance Tolbert for attempted first-degree murder. The victim, 81-year-old Bradley French, suffered severe injuries in the brutal assault that took place on May 24 at around 8:50 a.m.

According to the criminal complaint, French and a friend had visited the grocery store that morning, with French entering the men’s restroom where the attack occurred. Tolbert, who emerged from a stall, allegedly assaulted French with a hammer, leading to a struggle where French managed to briefly gain control of the weapon before Tolbert regained possession and fled the scene.

French, who had never met Tolbert before the incident, sustained a skull fracture, a deep scalp laceration, and defensive wounds during the assault. He underwent surgery for his injuries and is still receiving treatment.

Following the attack, Tolbert was apprehended by police near Wallace Avenue and E 7th Street, with bloodstains observed on his clothing, hands, face, and glasses. A hatchet, also stained with blood, was found on his person. Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of a hammer with blood traces in Tolbert’s jacket pocket.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) will conduct forensic tests on the weapons, clothing, and DNA samples collected from both French and Tolbert. Tolbert faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison for the assault and is currently held without bail at the St. Louis County Jail.
