Accident – Death – Obituary News : Dover, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities have apprehended a Stewartville woman who claimed to have awoken in a cornfield after crashing in Olmsted County. Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Captain Tim Parkin disclosed on Tuesday morning that deputies were dispatched to the crash site shortly before 1:30 am last Friday.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered an overturned vehicle lodged on its roof against a power pole. The vehicle was eventually towed away, and a power company was summoned to repair the damaged power lines. However, the driver was conspicuously missing from the scene.

The incident unfolded in the 2400 block of County Rd. 10 Northeast, a little over five miles north of Dover. Parkin stated that an extensive search of the area was conducted by deputies, but no trace of the driver was found.

Around 3:00 am on Friday, dispatch received a distress call from a 911 caller who claimed to have been involved in an accident and had just regained consciousness in a cornfield. Strangely enough, the call emanated from the same vicinity as the crash. Following the call, deputies revisited the scene and stumbled upon the woman, identified as 26-year-old Kelly Mehrkens.

Upon engaging with Mehrkens, deputies suspected her of being under the influence of alcohol. Consequently, Mehrkens was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while impaired and was transported to the Olmsted County Jail. Additionally, during a search, deputies discovered nine grams of suspected amphetamine in Mehrkens possession. Parkin indicated that she could potentially face two third-degree DWI charges and a felony drug possession charge.
