Authorities in Toronto have identified a 30-year-old man from Mississauga who tragically passed away from gunshot wounds sustained in the city’s St. James Town neighbourhood. The incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday, May 22, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.

Upon receiving reports of a shooting near Isabella and Sherbourne Streets just before 12:30 a.m., police arrived at the scene to find the victim, later identified as Jesse Tubbs, at the back of a building on Huntley Street. Tubbs was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries and sadly succumbed to his wounds on Sunday.

An urgent Canada-wide arrest warrant has been issued for Adrian Gordon Jr., a Toronto resident sought in connection with Tubbs’ death. Gordon is wanted for first-degree murder, and authorities have also released his photograph to aid in apprehending him.

Considered armed, violent, and dangerous, Adrian Gordon Jr. should not be approached if spotted. Police advise the public to dial 911 immediately upon sighting him.

Neighbourhood Residents Voice Concerns

Residents of the St. James Town area have expressed distress over the recent surge in violent incidents, highlighting a pattern of late-night disturbances and altercations. Prior to the fatal shooting, witnesses reported hearing heated arguments and commotion in the vicinity, underscoring ongoing safety concerns.

Notably, the shooting occurred outside a facility offering transitional housing to individuals experiencing homelessness. Residents of the shelter have lamented the lack of adequate support services in the neighbourhood, citing the presence of a harm reduction site and the prevalence of drug-related activity.

One resident shared, “This alley serves as a hub for drug-related activities, and since I moved here, I’ve witnessed four individuals succumb to drug overdoses in this very location.”

Data reveals a troubling uptick in gun-related incidents across Toronto, with over 170 shootings recorded since the start of the year—a 67 per cent increase from the previous year. Tragically, 15 lives have been lost, and 44 individuals have sustained injuries as a result of these violent incidents.
