SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – A man has been taken into custody by the Shreveport Police Department after allegedly brandishing a rifle at law enforcement officers, prompting them to seek cover swiftly.

The incident unfolded at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28th in the 600 block of Kingstowne Place in southwest Shreveport, near the intersection of 3132 and Linwood Avenue. The authorities were alerted by a concerned citizen who reported a man pacing in a yard while armed with a rifle.

Upon arrival, officers encountered the individual, later identified as 27-year-old Deon Blankenship. Blankenship reportedly aimed the rifle at the officers, prompting them to take evasive action. Fortunately, no injuries were sustained during the confrontation.

Law enforcement personnel managed to defuse the situation and apprehend Blankenship, who now faces charges of aggravated assault against a police officer.

Commenting on the incident, SPD Chief Wayne Smith commended the officers for their composed and professional handling of the tense situation.
