On the evening of May 25, 2024, members of Patrol Services apprehended Charles Syrette, a 40-year-old, and charged him with operating a vehicle while impaired, failing to comply with a demand, resisting a peace officer, and driving while prohibited.

At approximately 8 p.m., 911 dispatchers received a report of a vehicle exhibiting erratic driving behaviour in the vicinity of Pine Street and Queen Street East. Officers were dispatched to the scene and located the vehicle in a marina parking lot on Pine Street. As they approached the vehicle, the driver attempted to reverse out of the area but eventually stopped.

Upon engaging with the driver, identified as the accused, officers had reason to believe that his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. Despite the accused physically resisting arrest, officers managed to apprehend him.

Subsequently, officers administered a breath sample demand to the accused, who declined to provide one.

The accused faces the following charges:

    •    Driving while impaired by drugs and/or alcohol

    •    Driving while prohibited

    •    Failure or refusal to comply with a demand
