The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred on May 24 in the Northside area of Jacksonville, Florida. The man has been identified as 41-year-old Byron W. Walker.
According to Sgt. Steve Rudlaff of the JSO Homicide Unit, the incident took place on Maidstone Cove Drive, just north of the Trout River off Lem Turner Road, around 9:45 p.m. on Thursday. Police were called to the scene following a report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers found Walker with multiple gunshot wounds. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue personnel transported him to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
A suspect has been detained and is currently being questioned at JSO headquarters downtown. The circumstances surrounding the shooting and the relationship between the individuals involved remain unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.
Rudlaff reassured the public that the incident appears to be isolated, and there is no immediate threat to the community. However, the JSO is urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
