SALADO, Texas (KWTX) – Authorities from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) rushed to the scene of a serious collision between a pickup truck and a truck tractor semi-trailer on Friday, May 24.
The incident occurred on Interstate 35 near the 284-mile marker in Salado. A Ford F-250 pickup truck, driven by a 27-year-old male from Austin, Texas, was heading southbound on the highway.
According to the lead Trooper overseeing the investigation, a Kenworth truck tractor semi-trailer was parked on the shoulder of the road due to mechanical issues. The pickup truck veered out of its lane and crashed into the stationary semi-trailer.
Tragically, a 24-year-old passenger in the rear seat of the Ford, identified as Byron Lopez Lima of Austin, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Coleman.
Another passenger, a 20-year-old individual seated in the front of the pickup truck, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Baylor Scott and White hospital for treatment.
The investigation into the crash is still ongoing, and authorities are working to gather more information to determine the factors that led to this tragic accident.
