Chesterfield County, VA (WRIC) — Chesterfield County Police have announced the arrest of a suspect in connection to a tragic shooting incident that resulted in one fatality and left another individual injured on Periwinkle Drive in the Chester area on Sunday evening.
Details of the Incident
Authorities received a distressing call at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, reporting a shooting in the 1900 block of Periwinkle Drive. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered two individuals who had sustained gunshot wounds.
The deceased victim was identified as 46-year-old Brian L. Cosby, a resident of the same block where the shooting occurred. Unfortunately, Cosby was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim, an adult female, was swiftly transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. Thankfully, she is currently in stable condition and receiving medical care.
Arrest of Suspect
On Monday, May 27, law enforcement officials apprehended 45-year-old Dion M. Rucker from the Rice area of Prince Edward County in connection to the tragic incident. Rucker faces multiple charges, including second-degree murder, aggravated malicious wounding, two counts of using a firearm while committing a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Rucker is currently being held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond. It is believed that he had prior acquaintance with the injured woman involved in the shooting.
