The Washington Commanders have confirmed that they have been made aware of a lawsuit filed in civil court against their kicker, Brandon McManus. The Jacksonville Jaguars have also acknowledged that they are facing a lawsuit related to the same matter.
A spokesperson for the Commanders stated that they are currently investigating the situation and have been in communication with McManus’ agent and the NFL office. The team emphasised that they take allegations of this nature very seriously.
According to a report by ESPN, two women have filed a lawsuit against McManus, accusing him of sexually assaulting them during a charter flight to London last year when he was playing for the Jaguars. The Jaguars have stated that they are aware of the complaint and the seriousness of the allegations.
In a statement, the Jaguars said, “As we continue to look into the matter, it bears emphasizing that we insist on an organization built by people who represent our community and game with the highest character and class.”
The women, identified as Jane Doe I and Jane Doe II, allege that McManus rubbed and grinded against them during the flight. They also claim that the Jaguars failed to supervise him and create a safe environment for staff serving the team. The women are seeking more than $1 million in damages and have requested a jury trial, as reported by ESPN.
McManus’ lawyer has vehemently denied the allegations, calling them “absolutely fictitious and demonstrably false.” In a statement to The Associated Press, Brett R. Gallaway of McLaughlin & Stern stated, “We intend to aggressively defend Brandon’s rights and integrity and clear his name by showing what these claims truly are — an extortion attempt.”
Brandon McManus, who is set to turn 33 in July, recently signed with the Washington Commanders in March. The Philadelphia native has played in the NFL for a decade, spending the first nine seasons with the Denver Broncos after playing college football at Temple University.
