In a devastating incident, a 63-year-old woman from Midland, identified as Barb Stoeser, lost her life in a single-vehicle crash that occurred south of Fort Pierre on Friday afternoon.
The unfortunate incident took place around 1 p.m. on May 24 when Stoeser was driving her 2005 Ford Taurus southbound on War Creek Road. For reasons yet to be determined, her vehicle veered off the road, leading to a tragic outcome.
Upon leaving the roadway, Stoeser’s vehicle entered the east ditch and rolled several times before coming to a stop on its passenger side. The impact of the crash proved fatal, resulting in Stoeser succumbing to her injuries.
It was noted that Stoeser was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident, which may have contributed to the severity of her injuries. The South Dakota Highway Patrol has initiated an investigation into the crash, although all information disclosed thus far remains preliminary.
