Accident – Death – Obituary News : Surat: Bharuch authorities detained a man on Monday for reportedly verbally abusing and physically assaulting six Jain sadhvis on Tham-Derol road in Bharuch district. The sadhvis, who were en route to Derol, had departed from Shrimali Pol Jain Upashray in Bharuch city earlier in the day. The situation escalated when they noticed a man trailing behind them. Sensing danger, the sadhvis confronted the man as they reached Tham village, approximately 10km from Bharuch city.

The man, identified as Altaf Hussain Shaikh (44), unleashed a tirade of verbal abuse at the sadhvis before physically attacking them with a belt, punches, and kicks. The distressed sadhvis raised an alarm, prompting nearby villagers to intervene and apprehend the assailant. Law enforcement was summoned, and Shaikh was handed over to the authorities for further investigation.

Inspector from Bharuch Rural police station stated, “We have arrested Shaikh, a labourer residing in Bharuch. A native of Khambhat, he has been residing with his brother in Bharuch for the past four months. Shaikh stands accused under Sections 323, 341, 295 (A), 354, 354 (D), 504, 506 (2) of the IPC for offences including causing hurt, molestation, and criminal intimidation. The motive behind his actions is currently under scrutiny.”
