Accident – Death – Obituary News : A tragic incident occurred in Sydney’s west on Sunday, claiming the lives of a father and his young daughter in a fatal collision between a rideshare vehicle and a ute. The victims have been identified as Thai Duong, 41, and his daughter Haili, 12, who were backseat passengers in a DiDi vehicle involved in the crash on Milperra Rd in Milperra around 7.40 pm.

The Toyota sedan they were travelling in was rolled in the collision, leaving all four occupants trapped inside. Tragically, Duong and Haili lost their lives at the scene, while Duong’s 10-year-old son Justin, who was also in the back seat, was rescued from the wreck and rushed to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a serious but stable condition.

The DiDi driver, along with the 52-year-old male driver of the ute, was also taken to hospital for treatment. The Duong family has been revealed as members of St Brendan’s Catholic Primary School in Central Bankstown, with the school sending out an email to parents informing them of the tragic event.

Principal Patricia Laidler expressed her deepest condolences to the family and offered support and care during this difficult time. The school community has also extended their prayers and thoughts to the family, especially to Haili and her brother Justin, as they navigate through this heartbreaking loss.

The incident is currently under investigation by law enforcement, with dashcam footage from the rideshare vehicle being reviewed. NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden stated that the traffic control lights were working at the time of the crash and that the rideshare driver had a single green light with no arrow, indicating it was safe to make the right-hand turn.

Despite the tough scene for police officers, they remain committed to serving the community and assisting those affected by the incident. Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact the authorities.

In a statement, a DiDi spokesperson confirmed that the rideshare driver was using their platform at the time of the accident and expressed their sympathy for those involved. They assured that they would cooperate with the investigation and provide support wherever needed.

The 19-year-old male driver of the ute suffered minor injuries in the crash and underwent mandatory testing at Liverpool Hospital. The rideshare driver will be interviewed once discharged from the hospital.

As the community mourns the loss of a father and daughter, they come together to offer support and comfort to the grieving family. The impact of this tragic event will be felt for a long time, but the community stands united in solidarity and compassion during this difficult period..
