A heartbreaking incident occurred in a women’s hostel in Ayanavaram, Chennai, where a 32-year-old woman doctor, Saranitha, was tragically electrocuted while charging her laptop. Saranitha, hailing from Namakkal district and pursuing a post-graduate medical course in Coimbatore, had come to Chennai for a month-long training programme at the Institute of Mental Health.
Living with her husband, also a doctor in Coimbatore, Saranitha was staying at a women’s hostel on K.H. Road in Ayanavaram. On a fateful Sunday, May 26, 2024, her husband grew concerned when she did not respond to his calls. Suspecting something amiss, he alerted the hostel manager who discovered Saranitha lying lifeless in her room.
Upon examination by the 108 Ambulance staff, it was determined that Saranitha had been electrocuted. Ayanavaram Police Inspector K. Paraninadhan arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation. Tragically, Saranitha was found on the ground, clutching her laptop, with charred palms.
The police suspect that the laptop’s cable may have been damaged, causing Saranitha to come into contact with a live wire and suffer fatal electrocution. A case of unnatural death was registered by the Ayanavaram Police as they delved into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of electrical safety, particularly when using electronic devices such as laptops. Our thoughts go out to Saranitha’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
