A sheriff’s deputy, Mallory Schwab, who was shot and injured during a welfare check in January, has bravely returned to duty. The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office made the uplifting announcement on social media that Dep. Schwab has been given the green light to resume full duty on Wednesday.
Schwab was wounded while responding to a welfare check on a 15-year-old boy on Jan. 23. Concerns were raised when county dispatchers received a distressing 911 call regarding the teenager after he posted troubling messages on social media hinting at self-harm.
Accompanied by fellow deputies, Schwab arrived at the Martinsville residence at approximately 7:30 a.m. Despite their attempts to make contact by knocking on the door, the teenager remained unresponsive. Tragically, the situation escalated as the teen discharged a firearm within the household, striking Schwab in the shoulder.
Rushed to IU Health Methodist in Indianapolis for urgent medical attention, Schwab underwent treatment and was discharged later that same day. The entire community breathed a collective sigh of relief at her remarkable recovery.
Regrettably, the teenage boy, later identified as 15-year-old Aidan Young, was discovered deceased within the property following a tense four-hour standoff with law enforcement. The incident left a sombre cloud over the neighbourhood, with residents mourning the loss of a young life.
