Tragic Incident in Garden Grove Leaves One Dead and Another Critical
Tragedy struck in Garden Grove as one man lost his life and another is fighting for survival after a juvenile, allegedly driving a stolen car, caused a multi-vehicle collision while evading police on Saturday night.
The fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Taft Street and Trask Avenue around 9:50 p.m., revealed Traffic Investigator John Yegler from the Garden Grove Police Department.
Prior to the crash, traffic officers had identified a stolen vehicle in the vicinity of Taft Street and Garden Grove Boulevard. Their attempts to stop the vehicle were met with the teenage driver accelerating away from the scene.
The juvenile suspect fled towards the south on Taft Street and ended up colliding with three other vehicles. Despite trying to escape on foot, the suspect was apprehended by law enforcement. Due to being a minor, the identity of the driver has been withheld.
Following the collision, a passenger from the stolen vehicle also fled and is currently at large. Two individuals were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Sadly, one victim, identified as 34-year-old Kevin Luu from Garden Grove, succumbed to his injuries.
The teenage driver has been remanded to juvenile detention. Authorities suspect that the use of drugs or alcohol may have played a role in the tragic incident.
