Balrampur: A “mentally ill” man allegedly killed his four-year-old son by slitting his throat in a suspected case of human sacrifice. The incident occurred in the tribal-dominated district of Balrampur, Chhattisgarh, as reported by the police on Monday.

The tragic event unfolded on the night of Saturday-Sunday in Mahuadih village within the Shankargarh police station jurisdiction. Following the heinous act, the perpetrator, identified as 26-year-old Kamlesh Nagesia, was apprehended by law enforcement authorities.

According to statements from the accused’s family, Nagesia claimed to be experiencing hallucinations and hearing voices instructing him to perform a “sacrifice”.

After sharing a meal that evening, the man, along with his wife and their two children, retired to their sleeping quarters. Sometime later, Nagesia awoke, proceeded to slaughter a hen in the courtyard, and then, disturbingly, took his slumbering elder son outside and fatally wounded him by cutting his throat.

Upon discovering the child’s absence in the room, the wife confronted her husband, who callously admitted to the gruesome act, citing it as a sacrificial offering.

Subsequently, the woman alerted other family members residing nearby, who promptly contacted the local authorities for intervention.

The accused has been detained on charges of murder, with officials noting his purported mental instability and prior episodes of attempting harm towards his mother, which were thwarted by family members.

An extensive investigation into the case is presently underway.
