LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — The tragic incident that unfolded in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday has left the entertainment industry in shock. Johnny Wactor, known for his role in “General Hospital,” was shot and killed during an attempted catalytic converter theft, his family confirmed to Nexstar’s KTLA.
The Los Angeles Police Department received a distressing call around 3:25 a.m. on Saturday, reporting a gunshot victim in the vicinity of Pico Boulevard and Hope Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered Wactor with a fatal gunshot wound.
According to the authorities, Wactor caught three individuals in the act of stealing the catalytic converter from his vehicle. When he confronted them, the situation escalated, leading to the fatal shooting.
Despite being rushed to a local hospital, Wactor succumbed to his injuries. The suspects involved in the incident remain at large, with the police continuing their investigation to bring them to justice.
News of Wactor’s untimely death was first reported by TMZ and later confirmed by Wactor’s younger brother, Grant, in a statement to KTLA.
The 37-year-old actor, best known for his portrayal of Brando Corbin in “General Hospital,” graced the screens in 164 episodes of the popular soap opera between 2020 and 2022. Apart from his notable role in “General Hospital,” Wactor also made appearances in other renowned shows such as “Westworld” and “Criminal Minds.”
In a heartfelt tribute, Wactor’s talent agent, David Shaul, shared his thoughts with Variety on Sunday.
“Johnny Wactor was a remarkable individual. Not only was he a talented actor dedicated to his craft, but he also set a moral example for everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His unwavering commitment to hard work, perseverance, and a never-say-die attitude was truly inspiring. Despite the challenges of the industry, he always maintained a positive outlook and strived for excellence,” Shaul expressed. “Our time with Johnny was a blessing that we wish upon everyone. He was someone who would go above and beyond for others. After more than a decade of partnership, his absence will leave an irreplaceable void in our hearts.”
