Accident – Death – Obituary News : The trial of accused double-murderer Greg Lynn took a new turn as the jury was informed that the cause of death of the two elderly campers, Russell Hill and Carol Clay, could not be determined. The 57-year-old former Jetstar pilot is currently facing trial in Victoria’s High Country, where he has pleaded not guilty to the murders that occurred over four years ago.

As the third week of the trial commenced in the Victorian Supreme Court, prosecutors alleged that Lynn killed the childhood sweethearts at Bucks Camp on the evening of March 20, 2020, following a potential dispute with Mr. Hill. However, Lynn’s defence team argued that the deaths were a tragic accident, stemming from accusations made by Mr. Hill concerning hunting activities and a missing firearm.

Forensic pathologist Dr. Melanie Archer testified before the jury, revealing that over 2000 bone fragments found in December 2021 were identified as belonging to the missing pair. Despite extensive examination, Dr. Archer stated that the cause of death could not be ascertained due to the severe burning and fragmentation of the remains.

During the trial’s opening, it was disclosed that both parties agreed Lynn had set fire to the victims’ campsite and disposed of their bodies in bushland near Dargo. Additionally, it was acknowledged that Lynn returned to the site in November of the same year to burn the remains further.

Prosecutor Daniel Porceddu pressed Dr. Archer on the inability to determine the cause of death, highlighting the challenges posed by the condition of the remains. In response to questioning by Lynn’s barrister, Dermot Dann KC, Dr. Archer affirmed that Lynn’s account was consistent with the available evidence.

The prosecution contends that Lynn’s actions following the incident serve as an implied admission of guilt, while the defence maintains that Lynn’s actions were driven by fear of being wrongly accused. The trial, presided over by Justice Michael Croucher, is ongoing as further evidence is presented to the court..
