A 26-year-old habitual offender has been apprehended by authorities in Bengaluru for the brutal killings of two individuals by bludgeoning them with a stone while they were asleep. The heinous crimes occurred on separate occasions, with one taking place in the Banashankari police station jurisdiction on May 12, and the other in the City Market police station area on May 18.
The suspect, identified as Girish M, also known as Giri, hails from Vasanthapura in Subramanyapura. The victim in the City Market incident was identified as Suresh, a homeless individual, while the identity of the victim in the Banashankari case remains unknown at this time.
Law enforcement officials were able to pinpoint Girish as the perpetrator through surveillance footage. It was revealed that Girish was inebriated during both attacks, with no discernible motive behind the brutal slayings. Additionally, Girish has a history of involvement in cases related to sexual harassment, theft, assault, and intimidation across various police jurisdictions in the city. He had previously served a 10-month prison sentence in connection with an assault case in the City Market police station area, being released in 2020.
Described as an alcoholic and drug addict, Girish was notorious for terrorising individuals during the night, often resorting to theft of mobile phones and other valuables, as per police reports.
