Wilson authorities have disclosed further information regarding a tragic officer-involved shooting incident that took place over the weekend.

According to reports, Wilson police officers responded to a call reporting shots fired in the 900 block of Hood Street in the early hours of Sunday morning at 12:30.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers met with a resident who reported hearing gunshots in the vicinity of her property.

A subsequent search of the area led officers to encounter two individuals, one of whom was identified as Ed Edwards, III, aged 48 and a resident of Wilson.

During the questioning of the individuals, Ed Edwards reportedly attempted to distance himself from the officers.

It is alleged that as officers continued to engage with Edwards, he suddenly turned towards one of the officers brandishing a firearm, which he then discharged.

In response to the imminent threat, the officers returned fire, striking Edwards.

Efforts were made by the officers to administer first aid to Edwards until emergency medical services arrived on the scene; unfortunately, Edwards was pronounced deceased at the location.

The two officers involved in the incident have been identified as Officer H.M. Little and Officer R.R. Celaya. Officer Little, who has been serving with the Wilson Police Department since 2022, is currently assigned to the west district as a patrol officer. Officer Celaya, also a member of the force since 2022, is assigned to the north district as a patrol officer.

Both officers have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
