The Pune police have taken action against two doctors from the Sassoon General Hospital for their alleged involvement in manipulating blood samples and destroying evidence in a recent car accident case involving a 17-year-old boy. The incident, which took place on May 19, resulted in the tragic death of two IT professionals who were riding a motorcycle that was struck by a speeding Porsche reportedly driven by the minor.
The doctors, identified as Dr. Ajay Taware and Shrihari Harnor, were reportedly arrested for their role in tampering with key evidence related to the case. The head of the hospital’s forensic department was among those taken into custody, highlighting the seriousness of the allegations against them.
According to a senior police official, the case is currently under investigation by the crime branch, which is looking into the circumstances surrounding the accident and the actions taken by those involved. The police have maintained that the teenager was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision, adding to the gravity of the situation.
Initially, the teenager was granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board, which also imposed the unusual requirement for him to write an essay on road accidents. However, public outrage and a review application by the police led to a reconsideration of the case, resulting in the teenager being remanded to an observation home until June 5.
Furthermore, the police have also detained the teenager’s father, a prominent realtor in the area, and his grandfather in connection with the fatal accident.
