Accident – Death – Obituary News : MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — After a harrowing incident in January where she was shot while on duty, Morgan County Deputy Mallory Schwab has bravely returned to active duty. The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office made the announcement in a recent social media post, stating that Dep. Schwab has been given the clearance to resume her full duties as a law enforcement officer.

The incident occurred during a welfare check on a 15-year-old boy in Martinsville. Concerns were raised after the teen posted on social media about potentially harming himself, prompting county dispatchers to request a check on his well-being. When Schwab and her fellow deputies arrived at the residence, they were met with silence. However, moments later, the teen fired a weapon inside the home, striking Deputy Schwab in the shoulder.

Swiftly transported to IU Health Methodist in Indianapolis, Schwab received prompt treatment for her injuries and was discharged the same day. Sadly, the standoff with the teen, identified as Aidan Young, ended tragically with the discovery of his lifeless body inside the residence.

Despite the ordeal, Schwab maintained a positive outlook, expressing gratitude and high spirits upon her release from the hospital. After undergoing a four-month recovery process, she has now returned to her post at the sheriff’s office. The Sheriff’s Office warmly welcomed her back with a social media post that read, “Welcome back, Mallory! Your shift is ready for you.”
