Accident – Death – Obituary News :
Twelve individuals sustained injuries after a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Dublin encountered severe turbulence on Sunday, according to official reports.
The incident occurred while the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner was flying over Turkey, resulting in injuries to six passengers and six crew members. Despite the turbulence, the flight, identified as QR017, landed safely at Dublin Airport shortly before 1 p.m. on Sunday. Emergency services were on standby as the plane touched down, and ultimately, eight individuals were taken to the hospital for further evaluation, as confirmed by Dublin Airport authorities.
While the extent of the injuries remains unclear, eyewitnesses shared accounts of crew members limping and some passengers being bandaged up. The turbulence reportedly struck during a routine food and drinks service onboard the aircraft.
One passenger, who captured the moment on video, described the harrowing experience to The Guardian, stating, “The plane just seemed to go… stop–which it didn’t but then dropped, quite a severe drop. Fortunately, the Captain managed to regain control quickly, but unfortunately, there were a couple of passengers that didn’t have their seatbelts on in front of us, resulting in them being thrown out of their seats and hitting their heads.”
Another passenger, identified as Conor, recounted to Irish broadcaster RTÉ, “We saw the flight attendant go up in the air and come straight back down.” His companion, Emma, added, “I was half-asleep when the plane suddenly dropped, and I could see the look of panic on everyone’s faces.”
Cathal, another passenger on the flight, shared his experience with RTÉ, mentioning that he was having dinner when the turbulence struck. “Just food all over the plane, on the ceiling, everywhere,” he recalled of the aftermath.
In a statement released on social media, Qatar Airways confirmed the safe landing of the flight and acknowledged that a few passengers and crew members sustained minor injuries, receiving medical attention promptly. The airline assured that an internal investigation into the incident was underway, emphasizing the safety and security of passengers and crew as their top priority.
Despite the turbulence incident, flight operations at Dublin Airport remained unaffected, with the return flight to Doha still scheduled, albeit delayed.
This occurrence comes less than a week after a tragic incident on a Singapore Airlines flight, where a 73-year-old passenger lost his life due to extreme turbulence. Twenty-two other passengers suffered severe injuries, including spine and spinal cord injuries, skull and brain injuries, as well as other bone and muscle injuries.
