HOT SPRINGS — A parolee from Hot Springs has been arrested on a felony battery charge after reportedly admitting to assaulting his 63-year-old father. Brad Austin Brown, 26, was taken into custody at his residence on Disney Street on Thursday night. He has been charged with second-degree domestic battery, a serious offence that carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison due to the age of the victim.

Brown, who also had a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear, appeared in Garland County District Court on Friday and pleaded not guilty to the charge. His bond was initially set at zero, but it was later reduced to $7,500. A felony review hearing is scheduled for July 19. As of Friday afternoon, Brown remained in custody.

Court records show that Brown has a prior conviction for residential burglary, theft of property involving a firearm, and fleeing. He was sentenced to five years in prison but was released on parole.

The incident leading to Brown’s arrest occurred around 8:45 p.m. on Thursday when Garland County sheriff’s Deputy Colleen Smith responded to a domestic disturbance call at the Disney Street residence. Upon arriving, she found Brown standing at the end of the driveway.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Brown confessed to getting into an argument with his father, during which he punched him multiple times in the face. Smith observed the father, who had visible injuries including redness, swelling, and blood coming from his nose. The father confirmed that his son had punched him three times, causing his injuries.

Brown was taken into custody without incident and transported to the detention center. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
