Details of the Incident

A local parolee, Brad Austin Brown, 26, was arrested on a felony battery charge on Thursday night for allegedly assaulting his 63-year-old father. The incident took place at their residence on Disney Street.

Brown was taken into custody around 9 p.m. and charged with second-degree domestic battery, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, given his father’s age.

Legal Proceedings

Following his arrest, Brown, who also had a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear, appeared in Garland County District Court where he pleaded not guilty to the charge. His initial bond was set at zero, but it was later reduced to $7,500. A felony review hearing is scheduled for July 19.

Court records indicate that Brown was previously convicted of residential burglary, theft of property involving a firearm, and fleeing. He was sentenced to five years in prison but was later granted parole.

Law Enforcement Response

According to the probable cause affidavit, Deputy Colleen Smith of the Garland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance at the Disney Street residence. Upon arrival, she found Brown at the end of the driveway.

Smith observed visible injuries on the father, including redness, swelling, and blood coming from his nose. The father explained that the altercation with his son turned physical, leading to the assault.

Brown was then taken into custody without further incident and transported to the detention center.
