A 34-year-old man from Rajasthan has been arrested for smoking inside the lavatory on an Air India flight that was travelling from Jaipur to Mumbai on Saturday. The individual entered the lavatory while the flight was in mid-air and proceeded to smoke, according to officials.

The man was apprehended after crew members discovered smoke residue inside the lavatory following his departure.

Arjun Thalore, the man in question, was handed over to airport security upon the flight’s arrival at Mumbai airport. Subsequently, he was taken into custody by the Sahar police.

“Despite clear instructions from the crew, Thalore chose to enter the lavatory mid-flight and smoke,” a police officer stated, as reported by TOI.

This incident marks the second occurrence of its kind this month.

On May 8, a 51-year-old passenger was caught smoking in the lavatory of a Vistara flight en route from Muscat to Mumbai. The passenger, Balakrishna Rajayan, allegedly went to the rear lavatory of the aircraft and lit a cigarette.

The pilot of the aircraft detected the smoke with the aid of a smoke detector, bringing the situation to light. Crew members were then alerted, leading to a search of the lavatory, where a cigarette butt was found in the wash basin, according to an official account.

Upon landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai, the crew members notified security personnel. The passenger was confronted, and he admitted to smoking inside the lavatory. Subsequently, a complaint was lodged against him by the security supervisor at the Sahar police station in the city.

A case was filed against the passenger under section 336 (act of endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code and section 25 of the Aircraft Rules, as per the official statement.
