In a shocking revelation, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar disclosed on May 27 that the father of the juvenile involved in the car accident had contacted a doctor to tamper with blood samples for an alcohol test.

Two doctors from Sassoon General Hospital were arrested by the Pune police for allegedly manipulating blood samples and destroying crucial evidence. Among the arrested individuals are the head of the hospital’s forensic department.

“The suspects have been taken into custody on charges of manipulating blood samples and destroying crucial evidence related to the case,” stated a senior police official.

The arrested doctors, Dr. Ajay Taware and Shrihari Harnor, were responsible for handling the minor’s medical examination following the accident on May 19.

An investigation revealed that the blood report of the minor was swapped with that of another individual who had not consumed alcohol, raising serious concerns about the integrity of the case.

The ongoing probe is being conducted by the crime branch to ascertain the identities of the individuals whose blood samples were replaced with those of the juvenile.

The tragic incident occurred when a speeding Porsche, allegedly driven by the minor, collided with a motorcycle carrying two IT professionals in the early hours of May 19. The police have asserted that the teenager was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Initially granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board, the minor was ordered to write an essay on road accidents. However, following public outrage and a review petition by the police, the teenager was remanded to an observation home until June 5.

Further complicating the case, the police have arrested the teenager’s father, a realtor, and his grandfather in connection with the fatal accident.
