Accident – Death – Obituary News : An Indian expatriate woman in her late thirties tragically fell to her death in Fujairah over the weekend. The deceased, identified as Shanifa Babu, plummeted from the balcony of her 19th-floor apartment. Shanifa, a mother of two daughters, was a well-known figure on social media platforms with a substantial following. At the time of the incident, her mother was visiting her from Dubai.
“We are completely unaware of what transpired,” stated a family friend who opted to remain anonymous. “The incident occurred around 9 am, and her husband, mother, and children were present in the apartment. Shanifa was born and raised in the UAE, with her entire extended family residing in the country. On that fateful Saturday, her mother had travelled from Dubai to see her in Fujairah.”
According to social workers, both Shanifa’s husband and mother spent hours at the police station into the early hours of Sunday, completing necessary procedures. The deceased’s body is currently being held at the mortuary of Fujairah Hospital. Shanifa’s husband is an entrepreneur who owns a construction company in the emirate. The couple originally hails from the southern Indian state of Kerala.
Shanifa was an active presence on Instagram and TikTok, amassing a combined following of over 90,000 on both platforms. She frequently shared humorous reels and insights into her family life. Her final social media post, a TikTok reel, featured the caption: “Don’t fall in love with me, I will break your heart.”
Following the news of Shanifa’s passing, an outpouring of condolences flooded social media platforms, with many users expressing shock and disbelief. “I can’t believe you’re no longer with us, Shanu,” one user wrote. Another shared, “You were someone I connected with on social media, even though we never met in person. Rest in peace.”
Shanifa’s husband, Sanuj Babu, took to Instagram to share the heartbreaking news, urging followers to pray for her. The family friend expressed profound disbelief at the tragedy, highlighting the loving and harmonious nature of Shanifa’s family. The friend recounted the confusion and fear experienced by Shanifa’s young daughters, who spent Saturday at a friend’s house.
Social workers are currently aiding the family with necessary paperwork and formalities. It remains uncertain whether Shanifa will be laid to rest in the UAE or in India. This devastating incident follows similar tragedies in the region, including the recent death of an Ajman teenager who fell from a residential building and a 4-year-old child who tragically lost their life after falling from a high-rise in Sharjah.
