Three individuals tragically lost their lives and another sustained severe injuries following a devastating fire that engulfed a four-storey residential building in the heart of Krishna Nagar, located in east Delhi. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, was confirmed by officials from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS).
The local police have taken action against the building owner, charging them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 285, 304A, 337, and 427, related to negligence, causing death by negligence, and endangering the safety of others.
Among the victims were a 66-year-old woman named Promila Shad, whose charred remains were discovered on the first floor of the building. Additionally, 18-year-old Keshav Sharma and 39-year-old Anju Sharma were rushed to a nearby hospital but were tragically pronounced dead upon arrival by medical professionals.
Despite the devastating loss of life, nine individuals were successfully rescued by the courageous efforts of emergency responders.
DFS Chief Atul Garg provided further details, stating that the fire was reported at approximately 2:35 a.m. and was successfully extinguished by 7:20 a.m. Initial investigations revealed that the blaze originated from the parking area of the building, where several two-wheelers caught fire.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the emergency, dispatching five fire tenders to the scene. Tragically, fourteen vehicles and two bicycles were completely destroyed in the fire, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake.
