– Deputies investigate borrowed car murder.
Accident – Death – Obituary News :
A man has been arrested for allegedly beating another man to death in a dispute over a borrowed car, as reported by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. The suspect, covered in blood, reportedly directed deputies to the victim.
Matthew Paul Weldon, aged 37, is currently held in the local jail without bond, according to official records.
Witnesses and court documents, along with a press statement, reveal that Weldon and the victim, Carroll Edwin Bryan Jr., aged 49, had been engaged in arguments throughout the day on Tuesday. Weldon reportedly confessed to the killing at a neighbor’s house.
Upon receiving a 911 call from a concerned neighbor, deputies arrived at the scene.
Law enforcement stated, “When deputies arrived on scene, they located the suspect, 37-year-old Matthew Weldon, in front of the residence covered in blood.” Weldon had blood on his clothes and hands, and he directed deputies to the victim, Carroll Bryan, who was found deceased on the back patio with blunt force injuries.
Possible Motive
According to detectives, Weldon and Bryan had met at a bar in Clearwater about two weeks prior to the incident. Weldon had loaned his vehicle to Bryan a week before, but Bryan failed to return it as promised, leading to a confrontation on May 21, 2024.
Witnesses claim that Bryan arrived at Weldon’s residence with the vehicle, sparking an argument that turned violent. The evidence suggests that Bryan was struck on the head and repeatedly attacked while on the ground, resulting in fatal injuries.
Weldon sustained minor injuries during the altercation.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. A public defender has entered a plea of not guilty on Weldon’s behalf and requested further discovery.
