MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An individual has been apprehended by Memphis Police after intentionally ramming his truck into a food truck, creating a chaotic and dangerous situation. The alarming incident took place at the Cordova Pit Stop Food Truck Park on Macon Road, where the owner of the targeted food truck, Mark Maughmer, expressed his shock and concern over the reckless actions of the suspect.
Maughmer emphasized the potential danger of the situation, stating, “If I had some customers standing there at the time, he would’ve killed them.” He described the food truck park as a family-friendly environment that had never encountered such a threatening situation in its three years of operation.
According to Maughmer, the suspect, identified as Alton Turner, displayed signs of being under the influence upon his arrival at the park. “So, he was being loud and just drunk,” Maughmer recalled. This behavior led to a confrontation between Turner and the food truck park staff.
Maughmer revealed that he had previously encountered Turner, but the situation had never escalated to the extent witnessed during the recent incident. He had even warned a nearby business not to serve Turner more alcohol due to his disruptive behavior at the park.
However, this advice seemed to enrage Turner, leading to a heated argument between him and Maughmer. Despite multiple attempts to diffuse the situation and remove Turner from the premises, he allegedly threatened Maughmer’s life. “He said I’m going to get my truck and run it through your stuff,” Maughmer recounted.
After Turner made a threatening move towards his truck, Maughmer took action to protect himself and his property. He recounted, “He said he was going back to his truck. I’m not letting you get to your truck. So, I kept telling him don’t come up here. Don’t come up here. Well, when he came up there, I knocked him out.”
Surveillance footage captured the moment when Turner drove his truck through a fence, onto a platform deck, and directly into Maughmer’s food truck. Despite the violent nature of the incident, fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.
Nevertheless, Maughmer is now faced with the daunting task of repairing the extensive damages caused by Turner’s actions, amounting to over $30,000. On the legal front, Turner is currently in custody, facing charges of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault. He is being held on a $75,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday morning.
