(KRON) — The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim in the devastating motorcycle crash that occurred on Saturday on Highway 1 in Half Moon Bay. The motorcyclist who tragically lost his life in the accident has been named as Joaquin Dominik Jimenez Alvarado, the son of Half Moon Bay Mayor Joaquin Jimenez.
San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus expressed deep sympathy for Mayor Jimenez and his family, stating, “Our hearts and thoughts are with Mayor Jimenez and his entire family during this time of unimaginable loss. No one is ever prepared for such unexpected tragedies, and when they strike so close to home, they affect us all profoundly. The fatal crash occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 1 and Mirada Road, involving a collision between a pickup truck and a motorcycle. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to provide medical assistance to the motorcyclist, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries on-site. The driver of the pickup truck emerged unscathed and cooperated with authorities in their investigation.
Following the incident, both directions of Highway 1 were temporarily shut down for several hours, causing significant disruption to traffic flow. The road closure persisted until approximately 11:30 p.m. that night, when the highway was finally reopened to motorists.
